Advanced Filters in Excel
In this opportunity we will learn to work with the advanced filters in excel. To do this, we will take one of the tables that typifies information about what is happening in statistical terms with the current pandemic.
In Excel we can apply advanced type filters. What do you mean by advanced filters in Excel? Normally, when we want to filter something, we go to the tab or data tab and apply the filters.
Suppose we want to filter some kind of information, since the normal thing is that we go to the column, display the tab filters in excel and we look for what we want to know or the information we want.
Similarly, we can filter different items and know the statistics or information of two or more data in the different columns. Until then we can manipulate the table with the simple Excel filter.
But what if we want to filter 10 countries from the list we have and we also want to do it randomly or choose the ones we need for some kind of study or know in detail how the behavior is in certain areas for this case.
We will choose the list selected in the previous image and we will do it apply advanced filters in Excel.
One option is to search for them manually, that is, we display the filters tab in Excel and select each one. This will generally take some time and it is possible that it can be a bit complicated if we have a long enough list.

Advanced Excel Filters
The easiest way to search this list is to use the file advanced filters in excel.
The advanced filter is commonly in the datasheet and in the filter options it appears advanced which is the option we will use for the example of Advanced Filters in Excel. So, let's look at it in more detail.
To make a advanced filter In Excel, only two conditions need to be met:
- The data list range, which is the table with the information.
- And the range of criteria which is the data we want to filter.
But, there is a vital condition for the advanced filter to work in excel and is that, where we have the list with the information we want to filter, that list must have a header and it must be the same as in the table.
Why? Because what the advanced filter will do is, based on the header of the information that we are going to look for, it will detect in which of the columns of the table it must apply the filter with the information that we are going to look for or filter.
How to create filters in Excel
We will see how advanced filters work in excel. We will click on Advanced (Data β Filters β Advanced), in the range of the list, we select the entire table.
And in the range of criteria we select the data with the header and click accept.
Now we already have the example countries filtered in a few seconds and without the need to do it through the simple filter, which would take us a little longer.
Another of the options that we can manage with advanced filters is to copy to another place. In other words, we can copy and paste the information we are going to filter into another area of ββthe same sheet where our table is located.
What it does is filter the table and generate a copy where we specify them and likewise we can apply it with any of the fields we have in the table.
This is one way to work with Smart Filters. Which helps us generate filters much faster and leads us to be much more productive.
