Connect your Windows 10 PC to the Wi-Fi network without entering the password
Do you want to connect the new PC to the Internet via Wi-Fi but don't remember the Wi-Fi password? Do you want to quickly connect your PC to a modem or router without entering the password? Here's how to use the Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) feature to connect to a Wi-Fi network without entering the password.
Most modern routers and modems with built-in Wi-Fi support Wi-Fi protected setup or commonly known as WPS. The WPS function allows you to connect a device to a compatible modem or router without entering the password.
If a modem or router supports WPS, it will have a WPS button somewhere. You can also check your router or modem manual to see if it supports WPS.
Windows 10 makes it easy to connect your PC to a WPS-enabled modem or router. In this guide we will see how to connect Windows 10 PC to modem or router without entering the Wi-Fi password.
Connect Windows 10 to the Wi-Fi network via WPS
Important: We assume that the Wi-Fi router is turned on and supports WPS.
Step 1: Click on wireless icon in the taskbar area of the taskbar to display the drop-down menu with all the Wi-Fi networks detected by the PC.
If you can't see the Wi-Fi network icon, check out our guide on how to restore the missing wireless icon.
Step 2: Click on the Wi-Fi network you want to connect the PC to.
Step 3: You should now see the file Connect button. Windows 10 automatically selects connect automatically option. Uncheck the option if you don't want Windows 10 to automatically connect to that Wi-Fi network every time you turn on your PC.
Step 4: You will now see the password request. In this step, you don't need to enter the Wi-Fi password if your Wi-Fi router supports WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup). You can connect your Windows 10 PC to your Wi-Fi network by simply pressing the WPS button on the router. Most modern modems and routers have a WPS button.
When the password prompt appears on the Windows 10 screen, simply press the WPS button on the router or modem to automatically transfer the password information from the router / modem to the PC and connect the PC to the Wi-Fi network.

Note that the WPS button is typically located on the front of the router or modem, but can be anywhere on the modem or router. Also, on some modems or routers, you may need to press the WPS button for a few seconds. You will see the message "Retrieving your router settings" in the Wi-Fi side menu of your Windows 10 PC when you press the WPS button.
Once connected, you should be able to browse the internet.
If you are wondering, this is a one-time procedure. There is no need to press the WPS button every time to connect the PC to the Wi-Fi network.
