Learn how to disable screenshots in Windows 10

We always talk about screenshots or screencasting tools. You will find that there is no shortage of these tools for Windows 10 and they have almost every feature imaginable.

Windows 10 also has a native screenshot feature. Plus a dedicated app to take delayed screenshots and annotate them. That said, if you have a system where you want to disable screenshots and screencasts. You can do this with an app called ScreenWings.

ScreenWings is a free application. However, we have to warn you that due to the nature of the application. It is marked as dangerous/malicious by various antivirus applications/services if you scan it on VirusTotal. If you decide to use it, do so at your own risk.

How to disable screenshots in Windows 10?

Download and run ScreenWings. When the app is run for the first time, you see the small window in the screenshot below. Click on the monitor image showing the Windows logo.

When you click on it, you will see the application logo appear on the screen and the monitor image within this window will turn black. As shown below (changed since the app prevents screenshots when enabled).

Once the app is running. You can run any screenshot tool you want. This will appear to work, but the screenshot will be all blacked out. Nothing will be captured. Likewise, if you are using a screen recording tool. The tool will record a totally black video.

This tool is ideal if you have sensitive data on your screen and you can't lock your system or need to leave it unlocked. We have to warn you that it can also interfere with screen sharing tools.

So if you need to share your screen with someone but want to stop them from taking screenshots. This tool will not be of any help. You may need to look for a screen sharing tool that can, by itself, prevent users from taking screenshots.

We often talk about how essential it is to have a screenshot feature. But it's also essential that users have some sort of option to turn it off. Some apps may find a way around ScreenWings.

The app doesn't quite work in super secret mode. You can access it from the system tray. So, if someone discovers what you're using to disable screenshots in Windows 10, you can easily quit the app.
